Is there a setting in VLC to change default audio output to 5. Karan I guess if the source is not in 5. Could be your audio driver can do that. At the bottom of the right-hand navigation select the All radio-button under the Show settings area bottom left of the interface.
Select your "Output device" and "Speaker configuration" from the drop down menus. Restart VLC. Synetech Robin West Robin West 3 3 silver badges 2 2 bronze badges.Discover" style="max-width: 480px; max-height: 480px;"/>

I used it quite often to play all 5. Audio channels is greyed out when the active track has surround channel in VLC 2. So please advice how is this option greyed out for the multychannel playback if we see on the screenshots exactly the opposite?

I guess that might be useful. But the question remains, how can I now get 5.
Thanx for your answers though. Edit: Btw why not just move the old Audio Device menu items to the Stereo mode menu, since it isn't used anyway for 5.
